How to Turn Off the Gemini Watermark (2026 Setting)

Short answer: since August 2026, Gemini has a Media watermark setting. Switch it to Off and new images and videos you create come without the visible ✦ sparkle in the corner. Files you made before keep their sparkle, and that is where a Gemini watermark remover still helps.
Turn off the Gemini watermark, step by step
- Open gemini.google.com (or the Gemini app) and sign in.
- Open the menu with your settings. On a computer it is at the bottom of the left sidebar; on a phone, open the side menu first.
- Choose Media watermark.
- Select Off. A check mark shows the current choice.
That’s it: the setting is saved to your Google account and applies to everything you generate from then on, on every device. The menu layout can differ a little between the website and the phone app, but the option has the same name.
Do I need a paid plan?
No. The option shows up on free accounts too, next to the “Upgrade” entry in the same menu. If you don’t see it at all, your account or country may not have it yet (see below).
Where you can’t turn it off
Google keeps the visible watermark mandatory in some countries because of local rules on AI-generated content. At the time of writing this includes India, South Korea and Vietnam. There the setting is missing or locked, and the sparkle stays on everything you create, so it should stay on those files as well.
What the setting does not change
- Old files. Images and videos made while the setting was On already have the sparkle baked into their pixels. Turning the setting off later doesn’t clean them.
- SynthID. Google’s invisible watermark is still added to every image and video, whatever you choose. More on SynthID.
- Content credentials (C2PA). Files still carry metadata saying they were made with AI.
- Labelling rules. Platforms and some laws may still require you to label realistic AI images and video.
